Company Profile: A variety of Spices grown in the spice-friendly environment of the vast expanses of the tropical rain forests and natural good soils, make India 'the spice bowl of the world'. 100 years ago, in 1902, Late Pundit Ishwari Prasad Sharma set his foot on the eastern side of the great river The Ganges and settled in Kolkata. He set up a business of spices . His son Late Shri Mewaram Sharma expanded the business manifold during his life-time. After his death, his sons Shri Om Prakash Sharma ,Shri Ram Prakash Sharma and Shri Satya Prakash Sharma launched 'powdered spices' along with the existing business of whole spices. Soon India witnessed the birth of a powerful brand - SUNRISE SPICES and today, the Company has emerged as a very successful family business house. A household name in India and its neighbouring countries the brand SUNRISE is being promoted for more than 50 years under the able leadership of the senior Sharmas and their sons.

Description: From time immemorial, India is considered as the "Spice Bowl of the World". The history of Indian spices is almost as old as the 'human civilization'. Over the period, starting from Assyrians and Babylonians, Arabians,Romans, Egyptians, the Chinese to the British and the Portuguese -- invaded India with one common motto -- to take advantage of the rich natural wealth and for Indian spices. The earliest literary record in India on Spices is the Rig Veda (around 6000 BC), and the other three Vedas - Yajur, Sama and Atharva. During the Vedic period, there was no written document. Information was stored in human brains and handed down from generation to generations through hymns. The Rig Veda mentions horseradish, which is a close relation of Mustard and Turnip. There are also references to Black Pepper in Yajur Veda - to mention a few.

Indian spices are grown amidst the natural expanse of the subcontinent - in the montane, swamp, riverine and tropical rain forests, wetlands, marshy woodlands, rich valleys, green fields in a pollution-free, eco-friendly environment. It's the mother nature that gives all its goodness to the spices that make them so popular world wide.
